RUFOUS B Wonderful puppy

Born in Australia, among the rolling green hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Rufous B (a good dog) now makes his home nearer the coast, at Koala Creek.
Here the grassy paddocks are suited to his puppy frolics, the eucalypt forest and it's wildlife are endlessly entertaining for the canine explorer and the herb farm provides space for experimental digging up and burying of interesting things.
note:Rufous is pronounced Roo - fuss, Ruffie is Roo - fee.

What he needs are wonderful dog owners !
What we need is to understand dogs !
What we have is a daily adventure !
Rufous B
was 12 weeks
of age when he moved in with us
 . . .
and we are learning
things we didn't know before.

week 2
*Having a puppy is almost as much work as having a baby.
We are always thinking about what he will eat next and what will come out, where and when.

*Escorting him outside after any naps, food or drink is the only way to handle it.

*Do not give your puppy a pile of newspaper for a bed and another pile for an emergency wee wee pad. He now thinks it is OK to wee on the bed, even if it is the lovely teddy bear patterned pillow that cost $20 !   AND the newspaper is dry!!!!  Even changing the bed to a towel, folded old tablecloth or tarp - it is all the same to him. He will wee on the floor, if he has to, but the bed seems to be the place for it.

week 3
*Puppies, even those with little white dots for teeth
and who are only 14 weeks old - will bite you !

*If the puppy howls because of loneliness and you get out of bed, in your nightgown, to comfort him, he will sleep in your arms like a baby, for as long as you can sit still.

*If you give your puppy dog kibble and don't put any yummy gravied people leftovers on the top - he won't eat it!

week 4
*If two adults play with a Staffie puppy for the whole afternoon, he does get tired and needs a long sleep, but so do they
*Puppies can be moody, especially when they are teething.

week 5
* Puppies like to sit really close to the heater - even leaning on it and lick the bars in the front. If you move the puppy to get some heat for yourself he will push his way back in.

* A puppy who insists on tasty gravy over his kibble will go outside and suck rocks and lick up bird poo!
well, he is only 17 weeks old.

week 6
* A puppy will learn to use the newspaper in an emergency if you give him time!

* A puppy will wee on the floor as a sign of welcome when your friends arrive for lunch!

week 7
* A puppy put into a harness and into a car for the first time does not understand that this is not the place to chase his tail!

* A puppy going to the vet for a check-up should not be left in the waiting room when a cat shows up!

week 8
* Some puppies just love having a bath ! This was a surprise for us. We didn't realise our puppy would like to sit in the people bath with bubbles and a face washer.
* Even puppies who enjoy their bath will still shake the flea shampoo all over the doting owner - we will never get fleas.
* Staffie puppies like to chew on people - as a sign of affection.
* It is a good idea for Staffie pup owners to keep a supply of "I'm sorry" cards to give to departing visitors.
* Some puppies like to watch TV from under the best quilt on the couch.

week 9
* Some puppies will do anything,
or go anywhere, to find their lost soccer ball!

        * Some puppies will
just love you to bits !

We have survived the first six months.
